Norman Lear’s social and political activism has always beyond the messaging of his programs, and he continues to be a strong advocate for civic duty, citizenship, and progressive American values.
The Lear Family Foundation is a private foundation, created in 1997 by Lyn and Norman Lear, to support a wide range of nonprofit organizations across the country. Areas of support include civil liberties, education, the environment, health, youth initiatives, civic activism, media and the arts. (The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications.)
In addition to Lyn and Norman Lear’s affiliations with People For The American Way and the Norman Lear Center at USC Annenberg School for Communication, The Sundance Institute, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Lear Family Foundation supports organizations including:
