Environmental Media Association (EMA)

The Environmental Media Association (EMA), a non-profit 501 (c) 3, mobilizes the entertainment industry in a global effort to educate people about  environmental issues and inspire them into action. EMA was created by Lyn & Norman Lear and Cindy & Alan Horn in 1989 with the simple but powerful concept that, through television and film, the entire entertainment industry can influence the environmental awareness of millions of people.

By weaving environmental messages through programming and using "celebrity" for positive role modeling, EMA continues to influence how the public receives environmental information. To achieve this goal, EMA meets one-on-one to assist creative teams, produces public service announcements, collaborates with other environmental groups, hosts industry briefings, encourages the use of hybrid cars and works closely with environmentally responsible corporations. The annual EMA Awards recognize writers, producers, directors, actors and others who include environmental messages in their work. EMA also has created the Green Seal Award to recognize environmentally responsible production efforts behind-the-scenes, such as set construction, energy usage, resource conservation, recycling and purchasing policies.
